Mangaluru, Nov 8: After reports of a leopard sighted close to the coast at Someshwar area on the outskirts of the city over the past week, the presence of a baby leopard was confirmed with its sighting by few locals on Friday.

Although it is fairly common of sightings of leopards and panthers on the bordering areas of dense forests and forest reserves, the presence of a leopard along the coastal area had caused astonishment.
Another resident Namruth, a postgraduate student of St Aloysius College at Madoor, Beeri, also sighted the leopard while he was walking along with his mother on Friday morning.
To chase the leopard away, the locals resorted to loud noise by bursting crackers in the area where it was sighted.
Apprehension remains among locals
The locals resorted to continuous bursting of crackers on Friday night to drive away the baby leopard. Being a region filled with groves and clumps of trees, the villagers are apprehensive over the possibility of the wild animal still hiding in the area.
