Six killed, four injured as two cars collide

Gadag, Dec 30: Six persons died and four others injured when two cars collided near Adavi Somapur village under Gadag Rural police station during early hours on Sunday.

According to police one of the cars hit to the road divider at ring road near Adavi somapur village and hit the car. Six persons died on the spot and other four injured in this incident.

Four persons including two Seriously injured in this incident are admitted to different hospitals for treatment, police said.

Sources said, Five Deceased out of six are identified Shiddu Korishetty, Manojkumar Karadigudda Amruth, Chennuwad and Anand Betageri. All are belongs to Hebballi Agashi village in Darwad district and they were going to Marriage function from their village.

Senior police officials visited to the spot and inspected the accident spot.

The case has been registered at Gadag rural police station and further investigation under progress, police said.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
