
Mangalore, May 4: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was given a rousing welcome when he arrived at Nehru Maidan in the city on Friday evening to campaign for the party 's candidate.
On arrival, the Gandhi-Nehru scion was received by a galaxy of Congress leaders including former union minister and Congress candidate for Dakshina Kannada constituency B Janardhan Poojary, state ministers U T Khader, B Ramanath Rai and Vinaykumar Sorake.
Mr Gandhi, who addressed a massive rally earlier in the day in Bellary, was showered with flowers reflecting the Mangalorean public's enthusiasm over his arrival. Karnataka chief minister Siddaramiah and KPCC president G Parameshwara also accompanied him.
Emerging from an SUV at around 5:30 p.m. Mr Gandhi directly went meet Congress workers and his fans who had gathered in front of the stage. The friendly gesture of Mr Gandhi forced the hundreds of enthusiastic audience to erupt with zindabad ' slogans.
