Somshekar Shivacharya Swami arrested for raping 11-year-old girl in Mutt

Kalaburagi, Nov 18: Somshekar Shivacharya Swami, the chief pontiff of the Kambaleshwar Mutt in Chittapur town in Kalaburagi district, has been arrested by police on charge of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in the Mutt.

A special police team intercepted Swami's car on the outskirts of Jewargi town and arrested him when he was proceeding towards Vijayapura on Monday.

The police brought Swami to Kalaburagi and subjected him to medical test before producing in a special court dealing with crime against women and children. The swami was remanded in judicial custody till November 29.

The police have filed cases under different sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Meanwhile, the girl, who was in the government general hospital here for medical check-up, was brought to the special court where a magistrate recorded her statement in camera.

The minor girl, who was working as a help in the Kambaleshwar Mutt, was sexually assaulted allegedly by the same Swami on October 30.

The Swami had allegedly threatened the girl's parents against revealing the incident to anyone and also told them to desist from going to the police.

However, a few youth in Chitapur town and a few elders took the girl to the police and filed a complaint in the Chitapur police station on Saturday.

The police registered a case immediately and launched a search for the rapist Swami who went underground after coming to know that a complaint had been registered.

The police had stepped up their search and were keeping vigil on all main roads till the swami was picked up from the car on the outskirts of Jewargi.

Melkar, Dec 17: The 17th Annual Day and Graduation Ceremony of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, themed “Fusion-2K25,” was celebrated with dignity and enthusiasm, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s academic journey. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Asif Mohammed, whose presence greatly enriched the occasion. The celebration was further graced by the chief guests Mr. P. B. Ahmed Mudassir and Mr. Nissar Fakeer Mohammed, along with the distinguished guests of honour Mr. B. A. Nazeer and Mr. Ibrahim Gadiyar. The presidential address was delivered by the esteemed Chairman of Melkar Women’s PU and Degree College, Dr. Haji S. M. Ms. Mashmooma Fathima served as the Master of Ceremonies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Fathima Nida, and the programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Ayisha Suhana.
