
Mangalore, Jul 1: Police on Monday arrested a 47-year old man in Kerala for allegedly wheedling money out of innocent people by claiming to perform Karamath ' and heal illness through divine power.
The accused is C M Ibrahim alias Lafda Ibrahim, a native of Belma Adkare Padpu in Dakshina Kannada district.
He was arrested by the police in connection with having duped Naushad, a local resident, of Rs 17 lakhs by performing black magic on him. He is accused of performing black magic and cheating innocent persons of large sums of money, both in Dakshina Kannada and Kerala.
Based on a complaint lodged by Naushad, the police traced him to a rented house near a railway over-bridge near Kayankulam railway station in Kerala, where he had been residing for eight years.
He is said to have been involved in several cases of duping people and robbing them of their money in Kerala by posing as a man with divine power. He had also been arrested by Kanhangad police 10 years ago.
It is also being said that he had the backing of influential political leaders in Kerala.
