Mangaluru, Mar 8: The South Western railway has decided to introduce one more train between Mangaluru Central and Bengaluru before the end of this month.

The zonal railway on Tuesday informed this to the Karnataka High Court. A division bench of chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal recorded the submission to this effect made by N S Sanjay Gowda, the advocate appearing for railway, before adjourning the session to April 17.

The Railway informed the court about the train nearly two years after a public interest litigation was filed by Railway Yatri Sangha, Udupi, seeking directions to the Railways to implement the additional daily train service. The service was announced in the interim railway budget presented by then Railway Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on July 8, 2014.

The Sangha contended that the Railway Minister had also announced the introduction of a pair of trains bearing Nos. 16515 and 16516 on the Bengaluru-Mangaluru route and the timings were also published but the trains were never operational.

This has left general public in the lurch, especially when repair works are taken up on the road connecting Bengaluru and Mangaluru (Shiradi Ghat stretch), the association had said.
