Mangaluru, Mar 14: The body of Prabha Shetty, a Dakshina Kannada-based software engineer who was stabbed to death by unknown assailants in Sydney last week, reached Mangaluru International Airport on Sunday.
A host of her relatives were present at the airport and the family had made all arrangements to take the body to her residence. The body was later taken to her hometown Amtoor in Bantwal taluk by road for cremation.
The body had reached Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Saturday night. The family members completed the clearance formalities at the cargo terminal and took possession of the body.
The coffin containing the body was taken to her residence in Chandra Layout at 11 pm. The family was highly inconsolable on receiving Prabha’s mortal remains.
From Bengaluru the mortal remains were brought by a special flight to Mangaluru International Airport.
Prabha, a Mindtree employee, went to Sydney in 2012 on a project for three years. She was expected to return in the first week of April, when her Australian assignment was scheduled to conclude.
She was married to Arun Kumar, who runs an organisation in Bengaluru, in 2000. Meghana, the nine-year-old daughter of the couple, is studying in Bengaluru. Mindtree had made all arrangements to transport the body till Bengaluru. The motive and identity of Prabha’s assailant still remains a mystery.
