Mangaluru, Dec 3: A one-sided love affair turned bloody when a 40-year-old man chopped the hand of a 35-year-old woman and later shot himself on Thursday at Mulikar village in Dharmasthala on the outskirts of the city.

It is learnt that Gowda was in love with Honnamma for a couple of years and recently he had proposed her.
Even though she had accepted the proposal, when she came to know that he was an alcoholic, she decided to spurn him.
However, Gowda was constantly harassing the woman and forcing her to marry him. He had also barged into her anganwadi twice recently and tried to attack her.
On Thursday evening, when Honnamma was leaving anganwadi after sending children home, Gowda came with a sickle and a rifle and allegedly chopped her hand.
In spite of her critical condition, Honamma ran inside anganawadi and locked the door and started screaming. Meanwhile, Gowda shot himself and collapsed on the spot.
A severely injured Honnamma was then rushed to hospital. A case has been registered at Beltangady police station.
