Karkala, Jul 19: In another example of the proverbial Hard work pays off' case, a girl belonging to the Scheduled Tribe from Kukkuje in Karkala taluk was selected to pursue an engineering degree at a prestigious institute in Mumbai after years of perseverance.

Her struggle from a village in Karkala to IIT – Bombay following her primary education in Kannada medium will be commended and lauded by all.
During her schooling at Kukkuje Moodabettu primary school in Kannada medium, Akshatha successfully wrote and entered the Navodaya education programme. In her Class 10, she passed out with a GPA of 9.8 out of 10.
She completed her schooling at the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti at Hebri and continued her Navodaya Vidyalaya at Bangalore after passing the eligibility test. During her Class 11 and 12, she began taking the free IIT coaching classes, which helped her in cracking the JEE-Advanced exam she wrote last May.
By securing a ranking of 203 in the JEE-Advanced, she was selected into IIT- Bombay and has made her parents and villagers proud.
