Mangaluru, Oct 11: A gang of five robbers gagged a businessman, his wife and their maid and decamped with gold ornaments and cash from their house in Mandekolu village in Sullia on Saturday.

According to jurisdictional Sullia police, the robbers gained entry into the house of 68-year-old businessman Ramachandra around 2.30 a.m. by breaking open the rear door.
The robbers first gagged Ramachandra and tied his hands and legs. His wife Manjula and their maid too were tied in a similar manner.
The police said the robbers threatened Manjula to inform them about the places where gold and cash had been kept. They cut off the landline connection and started searching the house. The robbers left the house with 400 grams of gold ornaments, some silver articles and Rs. 65,000 in cash.
Additional Superintendent of Police Vincent Shanthkumar said the robbers stayed in the house for nearly 90 minutes.
He said they spoke in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. He said they were suspecting the involvement of robbers from Bengaluru and Mysuru. The police are searching for clues from the scene, including closed circuit television images.
