Sumalatha spikes rumours of JD(S) leaders contacting her

Mysuru, Mar 3: Actor Sumalatha Ambareesh, who is making a serious bid to get a Congressticket from Mandya Lok Sabha seat, on Saturday denied that JD(S) leaders have got in touch with her. She also indicated that she had no clue whether chief minister H D Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Kumaraswamy is planning to contest from Mysuru given her inclination to contest from Mandya.

Sumalatha visited Suttur and offered prayers at Mahadeshwara temple and Gaddige of the Suttur mutt. She interacted with seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami and showed him the trailer of her son Abhishek’s forthcoming film. Film producer Rockline Venkatesh and actor Doddanna were also with her.

Speaking to reporters, Sumalatha said she discussed the recent developments with the seer. “We know the seer for a long time. I met him and sought his blessings,” she stated.

She said she is touring Mandya parliamentary constitutency to get a feedback from the public about her intention to contest the polls. The actor said JD(S) leaders have not spoken to her even as she indicated that she is not bothered if Nikhil’s opts to contest from Mysuru. “I will meet Congress leaders and seek their support,” she said. She asserted that if JD(S) and Congress decide to field a Congress nominee from Mandya, she will get the ticket. She said she share a coordial relationship with the CM.

She said she will continue to focus on reaching out to people and hence visited K R Nagar segment in Mysuru district, which is part of Mandya Lok Sabha segment.

Meanwhile, film producer Rockline Venkatesh, who is associated with Sumalatha, accused the JD(S) leaders, including the CM, of denigrating former minister Ambareesh. Speaking to reporters, he said he was with Ambareesh since his school days. He said if Nikhil wants to contest the polls, he is free to take a decision. But the JD(S) leaders should not criticise Ambareesh and Sumalatha, he said.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
