Mangaluru, Dec 20: The 31st Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan was carried out by Ramakrishna Mission in Kadri Park - Padua area on December 20 from 7.30 am to 10.30 am. DR S Viswanath, Senior Scientist, NAL, Bangalore, & Sri Vasanth Kumar Perla, Director, All India Radio, Mangalore flagged off the 30th drive in the presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, President, Ramakrsihna Math, Mangalore & Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC.

Group of Art of Living, Students from Govt. First Grade College under Prof. Sheshappa Amin & Prof. Mahesh K B, volunteers from Nivedita Balaga under Smt. Rathna Alva & Sheela Shetty, Students of Bharathi Pre University College under the leadership of Smt. Subhadra Bhat actively participated in the Abhiyan.
Smt. Roopa D Bangera, Sri K V Sathyanarayana, Sri Dilraj Alva, Sri Surynarayan Bhat, Sri K Ashok, Sri Sharabhendra Swamy of AIR, Sri Suresh Shetty, Sri Umanath Kotekar, Sri M R Vasudeva, Sri Ramkumar Bekal & Sri Jayakrishna and several other eminent personalities participated in the Abhiyan.
Volunteers cleaned the surroundings of All India Radio campus under the leadership of Sri Vasudev & Capt. Ganesh Karnik. . Road leading from AIR to Kadri Park was also cleaned. Weeds and grass that were covering the footpaths and encroaching the road near Kadri Park were removed using the JCB.
Bus shelter at Padua wore a ghastly look. Volunteers cleaned the shelter and painted the railings and the bus shelter itself giving a facelift. The direction board near Kadri Park was worn out. It was repainted for the benefit of the public. The distance indicating milestones on the Padua high way was invisible due to wild grass enveloping it. The grass was removed and the board was repainted.
The circle in front of Vas Bakery in St. Agnes Area was cleaned and repair work was done last week. This week too, the work was continued by plastering with cement etc. The circle will be painted with art and graffiti in the coming few days.
Volunteers also distributed handbills on Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan to generate awareness among the localites in the area. MRPL, principal patron of the event sponsored the drive.
