Mangaluru, Sept 27: Accepting the offer by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join hands with the government in the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ movement, renowned saxophonist Kadri Gopalnath has decided to get two toilets built for a 98-year-old government primary school at Bengre here.

The Prime Minister has, through a letter on September 9 to the artiste, invited him to lend support to the “Swachhata Hi Seva” movement under the Swachh Bharat Mission.

The letter said: “You have used your creativity and talent to motivate and inspire many across the country. Swachhata, being an important aspect for the growth of society, needs stimulus from people of your stature.”

The letter invited the artiste to dedicate some time for the cause of Swachh Bharat. It said that his participation would further inspire others to be part of the movement.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, he said that the foundation stone for building the toilets would be laid on September 27 at 10.30 a.m. Building two toilets could cost him about Rs. 80,000.

He said that the school had only one toilet meant for physically challenged and not others.

To a question, he said that if required, he would not hesitate to take the lead in organising a fund raising music concert for Swachh Bharat projects.

He said that during the Kargil War he had taken the lead in organising such a concert in Chennai. In all, 400 artistes had taken part in it from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The proceeds of Rs. 6.50 lakh had been handed over to the Kargil Relief Fund.

The artiste said that he believed more in such projects which helped in maintaining cleanliness for long. Building toilets is one such project.
