Mangaluru, Apr 13: In a shocking incident, a youth was mercilessly thrashed by the staff of the toll plaza on National Highway 66 at Talapady in Mangaluru taluk, on Thursday just because he questioned them for abusing and manhandling an elderly man.

Abdul Hameed Sharafath (25), a resident of Kandak area in Mangaluru, was hospitalized after the unwarranted attack by the toll plaza operators, who also used abusive words against him and his community (Muslim).
The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. when Mr Sharafath was he was driving his car towards Kasaragod from Mangaluru. In his complaint to the jurisdictional Ullal police, he stated that he noticed the staff at the toll plaza abusing and manhandling an elderly man and hence he asked them not to do so.
“I stopped my car and asked the toll plaza staff not to misbehave with an aged person. Immediately, all the staff surrounded my car and prevented me from moving ahead. Then they began to abuse and thrash me. Some of them kicked me too,” he stated.
Sharafath said that someone who witnessed the incident came to his rescue and helped me board the car. “Later, one Naushad took me to a private hospital, where doctors asked me to get admitted immediately,” he said adding that he can recognize those who thrashed him.
