Youth attacked
According to reliable sources, a group of miscreants belonging to a rightwing organisation pelted stones on two youths at High School Road when they were walking towards a Masjid to attend Friday prayers.
When the youth began to shout two groups were formed and a fresh clash was erupted in upper town. The violent groups pelted stones and bottles at each other.
Situation under control
Police, who had resorted to baton charge on Thursday night, immediately intervened to bring the situation under control. They asked all the shop keepers to close their shops and go home in order to prevent recurrence of untoward incidents.
The clashes were begun on Thursday night after local youth identified as Khaleel was attacked by a group of miscreants belonging to another community.
Three cases
Three spate cases have been registered at jurisdictional Bantwal town police station in connection with violence in Kalladka since Thursday night.
Section 144
The district administration has enforced Section 144 in Kalladka for a period of three days from Thursday night to maintain peace in the region following unrest due to clashes between two groups on Thursday night, said deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim.
Addressing media persons at a press conference here on Friday, he said that the prohibitory orders under Section 144 would be lifted if the situation remained under control till Saturday evening. The prohibitory orders have been imposed as precautionary measures to maintain calmness in the region ahead of elections, he said.
