Bhatkal, Jan 22: A court in Bengaluru has extended till February 3 the police custody of four Bhatkal youth arrested recently in Bengaluru and Bhatkal and Mangaluru on terror charges.

They were brought to the 49th sessions court hall, the designated National Investigating Agency court, in a police bus. With their faces covered, they were taken to the second floor courtroom.
On January 8, police arrested Syed Ismail Afaq ,34, and his cousin Abdus Subur, 24, also an MBA student, from a Cox Town flat, while Saddam Hussein, 24, was picked up in Bhatkal the same day. A week later, Riyaz Ahmed was nabbed from the Mangaluru International Airport.
The media were prohibited from entering the court premises and the hearing was over in 40 minutes. "We told the court we needed more time to interrogate the accused. We submitted the evidence," a senior police official said, adding, "We took two of the accused to Bhatkal a few days ago. Their physical presence helped us gather some vital information.
