Bengaluru, Dec 10: It's unfair to brand the entire Muslim community as terrorists simply because a few individuals are involved in terror activities, members of 11Islamic organizations from the state said on Wednesday.

Condemning terror activities being carried out in the name of Islam, members of the Jumma Masjid Trust Board, Sunni Students' Federation, Muslim Organizations of India (Karnataka) and the International Sufi Centre said at a press conference the terrorist organizations that have come up today are groups trying to grab power. "They are in terested in political and commercial gain. Just having a Muslim name does not make you a Muslim," they asserted. "A real Muslim cannot be a terrorist," said Anwar Sharief, general secretary of the Islamic Educational Board of India.

The Islamic Educational Board of India (IEBI) looks at addressing the issue of young community members being influenced by these groups. "Those involved in extremist activities are not just anti-Islam but anti-Muslim as well. The biggest gap is in the lack of quality education and many have criticized absence of monitoring of madrasas. We will revise the syllabus of what is taught in madrasas to ensure it is the purest form of Islam devoid of personal interpretations. Out of 10,000 madrasas in Karnataka, only about 5% are actually `professional'. We believe that in 10 years, if we can impart and teach the Quran in its truest essence, there will not be a single youngster from our state who will fall prey to the propaganda of extremist organizations," said SSA Khader, president of the board.

Training for teachers in this regard has already begun. Madrasas will be open for people from all religions to visit, he added.
