Responding to a call given by the Mandya Muslim Okkoota, Muslims gathered in hundreds near the deputy commissioner’s office and staged a protest against Tiwari, here on Wednesday. More than 2,000 people from?Mandya and surrounding places who took out a rally, culminated near the DC’s office. They alleged that the leader has hurt the sentiments of the people by issuing a disrespectful statement against the Prophet.

Okkoota convenor Zabiulla Khan said that some Hindu fundamentalists are trying to create a rift among the people by issuing provocative statements. Some organisations under the Sangh Parivar are trying to project Muslims as terrorists, he alleged.

SDPI State unit president Mohammed Tahir said, “The BJP leaders are trying to convert India into a Hindu country by creating communal friction, which affects innocent people.” The government should check such acts with an iron hand. Otherwise, the protests would be intensified across the country, he warned.
