Kasaragod, Mar 24: The special investigation police team has arrested three suspected Hinduva activists in connection with the murder of a madrasa teacher, Mohammed Riyaz Moulavi, in Kasaragod.
Kannur Crime Branch superintendent of police A Srinivas, who is heading the team, said Ajesh committed the murder by barging into Moulavi’s room and attacking him with a wedge- shaped weapon.
Police suggest the possibility of a hate crime.
Riyaz Moulavi, a native of Kodagu and teacher of Issathul Islam madrassa, was murdered in the wee hours of Tuesday.
A gang barged into the compound of Muhayuddin Juma Masjid, Choori, and slit his throat in his room.
The incident had triggered communal tension in Kasaragod and surrounding areas. Muslim League had called for a hartal in Kasaragod the very next day.
