Puttur, Jul 7: Three policemen attached to the Nelyadi Outpost were allegedly attacked when they went to arrest a person near Shirady village late on Saturday night.
According to the Uppinangady police, under whose jurisdiction the outpost comes, around 10.45 p.m., Head Constable Dhananjaya, and constables Sachin and Shridhar had gone to arrest Pradeep, who had been booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 after threatening to kill a man over property.
However, on arriving at the house, the three policemen were attacked by Pradeep and his wife, who struck them with torches and wooden rods, said the police.
Dhananjaya suffered a fracture as he attempt to block a strike to the head from a wooden road, while, Sachin suffered two broken teeth when he was struck across the face, said the police. All three were admitted to the Puttur Government Hospital.
Police said Pradeep has been arrested, while his wife was also named as an accused in the assault case.
