Three youth booked under Goonda Act following AB Ibrahim's order

Mangaluru, Nov 9: The police have booked repeat offenders under the Karnataka prevention of dangerous activities of bootleggers, drug offenders, gamblers, goondas, immoral traffic offenders and slum-grabbers Act 1985(Goonda Act) following an order issued by Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner district magistrate A B Ibrahim.

Mr Ibrahim issued the order following a recommendation made by Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police Sharanappa SD.

The accused are Hanief alias Mada Hanief (29) of Devasya, Pudu village in Bantwal taluk; Afeez alias Appi(25), resident of Maripalla, Pudu village in Bantwal taluk, and M Imran(23), near Maripalla school, Pudu village in Bantwal taluk. At present, all the three accused are lodged at Udupi district jail at Hiriyadka for their involvement in crime number 196/2014 under sections 302, 120(B), 201, 149 IPC, an official communique here states.

Mr Sharanappa said that the DC had accepted his recommendation in agreeing to pass orders detaining the trio under the Goonda Act and notices in this regard has already been served on them at the Udupi District Jail on Friday.

A total of 10 cases are pending against Hanief, a coolie worker at Central Market, Mangaluru including eight in Bantwal Rural, and one each in Bantwal town and Bajpe PS limits. Afeez is accused in five cases, four in Bantwal Rural and one in Bantwal Town PS limits. Imran too is accused of involvement in eight cases registered in Bantwal rural and one case in Bantwal town police station. Afeez is in to stone business in Puttur, and Imran, like Hanief too is a coolie worker at the Central Market here.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: The Mangaluru City Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory ahead of the inaugural ceremony of Karavali Utsava, which will be held at the Karavali Utsava Ground on Saturday.

The festival will be inaugurated at 6:00 pm by Dakshina Kannada District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao. Cultural and public programmes will be held at the venue every evening and will continue until January 2.

According to City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy, parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited on both sides of the road from Lalbagh to Karavali Utsava Ground. Visitors are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas.

To help the public, traffic signboards and parking guidance flex boards have been installed along the routes leading to the venue. The police have urged commuters and visitors to follow these instructions to ensure smooth traffic movement.

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate by following traffic rules and parking guidelines to avoid inconvenience during the festival.
