Mangaluru, Oct 29: Security continued to remain tight at Nellyadi in Uppinangady where groups belonging to two different communities involved in a clash after attack on a salon by miscreants belonging to Sangh Parivar two days ago.
A tense atmosphere prevailed in the area as the Tuesday’s clash took a communal turn and police had to resort to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.
Cases have been booked against 18 persons in connection with the clash between two groups and alleged attack on police personnel, while at least nine persons among them have already been arrested by the Uppinangady police.

The clash had erupted on Tuesday over opening of a haircutting saloon in Nelyady. A haircutting saloon owner belonging to one community had kept his shop open on Tuesday, when many of the haircutting saloons are closed.
Another haircutting saloon owner, belonging to another community, and a few of his friends went to the former’s shop and asked him to close down. A heated argument then lead to exchange of blows.
Supporters from both the groups started assembling near the haircutting saloon. Following a call from a resident, Head Constable Balakrishna and few of his colleagues came to the spot and tried to diffuse the situation.
A few minutes later additional forces were called and the agitated group was sent away.
Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said both groups have filed complaints against the other for causing trouble. The police registered a suo motu case of obstructing official discharge of work as some policemen were injured while dispersing the crowd. The nine accused persons, who belonging to the two communities, have been remanded to judicial custody till November 7.
Meanwhile, eight persons belonging to both groups have been admitted to hospital. The injured include Vinod, an advocate. It is learnt that he was also among the gang which barged into a saloon and attacked a youth.
A group of advocates in Puttur submitted a memorandum to Puttur Assistant Commissioner on Wednesday demanding the arrest of those who attacked Vinod.
On the other hand, Hindu Advocates Forum, an arm of Sangh Parivar, has appealed all the advocates in the district against providing any kind of legal assistance to those who involved in attack on Vinod.
