The deceased has been identified as Sajida (21), wife of Azhar, a resident of Darkhas Ghousiya Compound at Kairangala near Mudipu.

Police sources said that the mother of two little children was found hanging under suspicious circumstances, a day after she returned to husband’s house from her parent’s house.

Even though it appears to be a case of suicide, the victim’s mother and other family members suspect that she was murdered by her husband.

Three-and-half years ago teenager Sajida had got married to Azhar, an auto-rickshaw driver by profession. The couple has two sons: Mohammed Hafeez (two-and-a-half years) and Anas (one-and-a-half years).

It is learnt that the within a few days after marriage, Azhar, who is said to be a drug addict, started harassing his wife for trivial reasons and even physically tortured her.

According to family sources, the couple, along with children, shifted to a rented house at Darkhas Ghousiya Compound, Kairangala around six months ago.

The victim’s mother Bi Fathima laments that her daughter, despite undergoing regular torture, made all possible efforts bring her husband out of his drug addiction, but in vain.

On Thursday, Sajida visited her mother’s house and reportedly told her mother that if anything happened to her, the latter should look after her two children.

Bi Fatihma, in her complaint, stated that she consoled her daughter and asked her to return to husband’s house, where in she was found dead. The police have registered a case and taken Azhar into custody for inquiry.
