Mangalore, May 7: Despite appreciation by the viewers for the Tulu film Brahmashri Narayana Guru Swami' which released on Friday, director and producer of the film Rajashekhar Kotian said that he was distressed and disheartened by the poor response to the film which revolves around the social reforms of Narayana Guru.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, actor-turned-director Rajashekhar Kotian said that he was pained to see few takers for his film which revolves around the life of the social reformer. “I am unable to understand why there is a lack of audience in cinema theatres for the film which was painstakingly produced at a cost of over Rs 1 crore. The movie is being screened at five theatres across the district, where several viewers appreciated the film's direction, cinematography and the screenplay. However, I fail to understand why the response is so poor,” he told mediapersons.

The debutant director further said that he had lost confidence to screen the movie in other theatres for fear of going into a loss over the film's collection as the rent in theatres was high.

The Tulu film is being screened in five cinema theatres in Mangalore, Udupi, Bantwal and Karkala.

Story writer Chandrashekhar Suvarna, and movie artistes Balakrishna Shetty, Deepak Kotian, Suryoday, Ranjith and Gagan were present.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
