Mangalore, Jul 26: In yet another case of hate crime, two youth assaulted a Kasargod boy for allegedly being with his two female friends belonging different community.
22-year-old Umar Farooq arrived at the Mangalore bus stand along with his classmates. All three went shopping on K S Rao Road.
Near the Sharavu Temple, the boy asked a few persons for directions to a nearby beach. After telling the direction, the persons reportedly called someone and told them about the boy moving with women from another community.
Two persons blocked the boy's way and rained blows on him around 11 a.m.
The assaulted boy filed a complaint with the police.
The Mangalore North police who registered a case have arrested persons as Nitin Kumar (21) from Uppala and Naveen Alva (22) from Kumbla. The two were produced before the jurisdictional magistrate.
Both the accused have been booked under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC.
