Two eloped minor girls traced: Boyfriend of one girl held

Mangaluru, Mar 12: Police in coastal district have successfully traced two minor girls who eloped with their boyfriends in two separate cases. The boyfriend of one of the girls has been arrested.

A minor college student, who went missing from city, was traced by the police in Bengaluru. It was said Gaja of Bengaluru, who had taken her on the pretext of marrying her.

The duo befriended through social media. Gaja had called student’s father and had informed him that he had taken away his daughter. The police traced the accused through mobile tower location.

In a separate case, police arrested a youth identified as Iqbal alias Ikku, a resident of Kanyana in Bantwal taluk was arrested by the police for luring a minor girl from a neighbouring village to Kerala and having sexual relationship with her.

He was arrested on Wednesday in his village on charge of abduction and rape as his girl friend is a minor.

Case converted

Iqbal had taken a minor girl, a college student, Thiruvananthapuram. The lovers stayed in a hotel. When police received information about them and raided the hotel room, the girl was alone in the room and the youth had managed to escape.

The girl had eloped with Ikku on the pretext of going to college, recently. When she did not return home from the college, her parents lodged a missing complaint in jurisdictional police station. The case was later converted into abduction case as the eloped girl was a minor. Ikku faces charges under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
