The two accused were produced before Bantwal JMFC court on Monday and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.

It is said that the two are part of a huge network of criminals indulging in fraudulent transactions using fake or stolen credit cards.

It is said that on Saturday evening, the two women entered a mobile store in Bantwal town and attempted to swipe their credit card on purchases of expensive mobile phones at the store. However, the transaction was rejected owing to lack of available funds in the bank account.

Alarmed by this, the owner of the mobile store immediately informed the Bantwal police who immediately arrived and led the duo away.

On enquiring, they failed to produce valid ID cards or passports, upon which, they were subjected to interrogation by the police. During this, it was revealed that the two arrested were part of a network of fraudulent credit card users.

The two women have been charged with theft, burglary and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

According to unconfirmed sources, the two women were also involved in a similar fraudulent transaction at a liquor store in Mangalore city on Saturday. It is rumoured that the two had successfully swiped a Visa credit card on fraudulent purchases of merchandise worth over Rs 1 lakh at the liquor store.
