Mangaluru, Nov 2: In a gut-wrenching tragedy, two daily wage labourers lost their lives when were engaged in an underground drainage work near Central Railway Station in the city on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Raghu and Babu both hailing from Bagalkote district in north Karnataka. They were temporarily working for Mangaluru City Corporation.
The underground drainage work has been going on near Hampankatta for past few days. On Monday when the work was in progress, a nearby water pipeline burst led to the tragedy.
The two labourers who were inside the drainage were engulfed by the water. Within a few seconds mud also caved in and they were buried alive.
A few minutes later, fire service and police personnel launched a rescue operation only to retrieve two dead bodies. More details are awaited.
