Bengaluru, Jun 6: Two prominent Lingayat leaders from Karnataka’s coalition partners – a three time MLA from Congress and a seven time MLC minister from JD(S) – have hit out their respective party leaders for not giving them ministerial berths.
Basavaraj Horatti, who had served as Primary and Secondary Education Minister during the 20-month JD(S)-BJP alliance government headed by H.D. Kumaraswamy, said it was the duty of the JD(S) to make him a minister. “I was pained when I learnt that my name wasn’t on the list,” Horatti said.
On the other hand BC Patil said: “I’m the only Congress MLA from the Haveri district. I’ve won thrice. I should have been made a minister. I’m pained. I’m not sure how people will continue keeping faith in the Congress. It’s the party’s loss,” Patil, who represents Hirekerur, told reporters. The cop-turned-actor-turned-politician also said: “Maybe, there’s no place for honesty”.
Both Patil and Horatti, however, maintained that they would not indulge in any rebellious activity against their parties.
On the same lines, supporters of Congress legislator (Yamkanmardi) Satish Jarkiholi staged a protest near Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday after it became clear that he was not on the list of ministerial aspirants. Jarkiholi was a minister in the previous Siddaramaiah government.
