U T Khader inaugurates 'Arogya-2013' health care expo in Mangalore

Mangalore, Dec 16: Coastal Karnataka's first health care equipment expo, three-day long “Arogya – 2013”, showcasing modern innovative health care products has been started at Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre Mangalore.

Minister for Health UT Khader inaugurated the expo on Monday and said that the government aims to provide sophisticated health and educational facilities. The exhibition has improved medical, health care equipment, which help to adopt improved medical care in hospitals.

He said that the government has all the plans to upgrade government hospitals on par with the private hospitals.

“Already two hospitals in Bangalore have been chosen on pilot basis for the project and it is expecting revolution in the field of health care,” he said adding that health tourism is also one of the areas that the Government is keen on developing.

Speaking about health insurance to APL and BPL card holders he said many insurance companies came with proposals of adopting health insurance for APL and BPL card holders in state. But health ministry decided to provide equal insurance scheme with “universal health coverage” package for every family in state. “Even the World Health Organisation has appreciated this scheme and asked me to visit Geneva,” said Khader.

R Rajesh, convener of the expo briefing about the expo said that 58 manufacturers of health care equipment of India are displaying the goods. Equipment related to operation theatre, beds, machines and other are on display. The Exhibition will also have a scientific conference and panel discussion. It will be open till December 18.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
