Mangaluru, Sept 3: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister U T Khader has proposed a dedicated centre for the assistance for those returning from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries after losing their jobs.
Speaking to media persons here today, Mr Khader, whose home turf is known for people’s inclination to work in gulf countries, said that thousands of Indians are losing jobs in Gulf countries due to various reasons and developments such as Nitakat, a drive to eradicate unemployment among Saudi nationals.
“Even though a considerable number of NRIs in Gulf have become rich, a majority of NRIs still have to work very hard to take care of their families back home. If they lose their jobs all of a sudden, they will have no other option but returning home. Such people really needs our assistance,” he said.
He said the help centre will be set up either in the office of Deputy Commissioner in the heart of the city or in any other convenient place. The main purpose of the help centre is to help those returning from Gulf countries after jobs to build a new future. Officials will be deputed to study their problems and to chalk out rehabilitation plans.
“The help centre will facilitate gulf returnees to register their names and provide details of the job they were doing in those foreign countries. Based on the skill they have, the government may plan rehabilitation of them by providing necessary support,” Mr Khader said.
Mr Khader also said that he will suggest Udupi district in-charge minister Jayamala Ramachandra to take steps to set up a similar help centre in Manipal as a large number of people from Udupi district also losing their jobs in gulf countries.
