Kundapur, Oct 17: Objecting to his image printed on cutout banners of the golden jubilee celebrations of Sharada Mahothsava Committee at Kandlur in Kundapur taluk, Udupi district Superintendent of Police Annamalai forced the organizers to remove such banners.

The organising committee of the Sharada Mahothsava had invited SP Annamalai as the chief guest in the golden jubilee celebrations of the committee to be held from October 18 to 23 in the communally-sensitive village of Kandlur. In this regard, five cutout banners had been set up by the organising committee.

The cutouts came to the notice of SP Annamalai when he visited Kandlur on Friday in view of the assault on two Bajrang Dal miscreants, who had tried to trigger communal clash in the village on the night of October 14.

Objecting to this, he ordered the organising committee for the immediate removal of the cutouts within half an hour, failing which he warned that he would not take part in the celebrations as the chief guest.

He sternly pointed out that he was the SP for all castes and religions without singling out one.

When members of the committee clarified that few activists from the organisation had set up the cutouts in his honour, Mr Annamalai asked them to help restore peace in the village before setting up cutouts in his honour.

He warned that strict legal action would be taken on those who made repeated attempts to spoil the communal harmony in Kandlur.

On enquiring, Kundapur DySP Manjunath Shetty said that four cutouts had been removed by the organisers by evening on the same day, while the remaining one was removed on Saturday.
