Udupi, Mar 8: Vishwa Hindu Parishad(VHP) Swarna Jayanthi Utsava Samiti, Udupi which is organising ‘Virat Hindu Samajotsav’ on March 9 at M G M Grounds has termed the ban imposed by the district administration and police department on VHP International Working President, Praveen Togadia’ entry as an attempt to suppress Hindu voice.

ban
The Udupi District Administration and District Police Department have prohibited entry of VHP International Working President Praveen Togadia into the district for seven days from 07-03-2015 to 13-03-2015.

Briefing reporters, VHP District President Suprasad Shetty alleged that the State government has taken a hasty decision to suppress the voice of the Hindus. The decision of the government has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Hindus. However, the decision would not in any way affect the strong determination and hinder the enthusiasm of the Hindus.

He said Samajotsav would be held at any cost and the organization still has hopes that the district administration would reconsider its decision.

He said the organisation would take decision shortly over the alternative keynote speaker in place of Togadia, if the district administration strictly adheres to its decision.

He cautioned the State government would not succeed in its attempt to suppress the voice of Hindus.

The ban order against Togadia is a challenge for Hindu organisation activists, which in turn would help the organizers to gather huge number people for the programme. He added the Samajotsav would be held from 4 pm to 5.20 pm.

Meanwhile, district BJP also condemned district administration’s decision to ban Togadia from entering the district for seven days.

The district BJP spokesperson Mattar Ratnakar Hegde alleged that the Congress government had made the district administration and district police department as scapegoats to carry out its work.

He ridiculed that the fear against law and order maintenance has made the district administration and police department to take up the prohibition order.

He urged the district administration to withdraw its ban order against Togadia. He cautioned the ban on Togadia would end up in provoking the Hindu activists.

Superintendent of Police Annamalai earlier told media persons that Udupi District Deputy Commissioner after analysing facts and circumstances passed the order on March 6, 2015 prohibiting entry of Dr Praveen Bhai Togadia into Udupi District limit‘s and participate in any public meeting and functions for a period of seven days from March 7 to March 13, 2015.

He said the decision was taken following his involvement in communal incitement cases and hate speeches. He has been booked for 19 cases across five different States.

The SP said maintenance of law and order was the main duty of police and district administration. Whenever public safety, peace and tranquility is in danger it is the duty of police and district administration to maintain law and order.

He had written a letter dated March 1 to DC and recommended prohibiting entry of Dr Praveen Bhai Togadia into Udupi District. Udupi City is having mixed demography of various communities like Hindu, Muslim, Christian and also Jains in sizeable numbers.
