Udupi, Aug 29: The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, here on Saturday, remanded underworld gangster Bannanje Raja in police custody for nine days, in connection with a case of firing at a jewellery shop in Udupi in 2011.
K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, told reporters that three more cases were pending against Raja here. Two of them, were related to incidents that took place in Manipal and Malpe in 1991 and 1992, when Raja was active here. The police were also probing a case of eviction of a woman, who was staying in a rented house here in 1996.
Though Raja was involved in a murder case in Brahmavar, a ‘C’ report had been filed. If the police got evidence in the course of interrogation, this case could be reopened. The investigation officers would have to decide on seeking body warrants for their cases.
Only four cases were being investigated here, including the murder of the businessman R.N. Nayak of Ankola in 2013.
