Udupi, Sept 29: A police constable from Udupi, who went to Bengaluru in search of his mission son, was shocked to find that policemen themselves had cremated the 18-year-old boy’s unclaimed body.

The deceased is C S Gautam, student of Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, in Bengaluru, and son of Constable Siddappa from Udupi district.
Gautam went missing from his hostel on September 21 under mysterious circumstances. The hostel authorities lodged a complaint with Kumaraswamy Layout police.
Two days later, the body of an unidentified youth was found in a quarry near Electronics City and police shifted it to St John's Hospital. With no one claiming the body, police cremated it on September 26 after a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, alerted by hostel authorities about his missing son, Siddappa reached Bengaluru on Friday. He went to Kumaraswamy Layout police station, where a clerk dealing with unnatural death report cases showed him pictures of unidentified bodies. He was he shocked to find his son’s body in the pictures.
