Kundapur, May 17: A transgender, who has been HIV-positive for last 15 years, has come forward to fight elections for Vandse Gram Panchayat in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district.

“By fighting these elections, I want to make some difference and also highlight the issues concerning HIV-positive persons. The rights of HIV-positive persons should be ensured and not ignored,” he said.
He said that he would fight as an Independent and not take the support of any political party in the elections.
Sanjeeva has also served as board member of Karnataka Network of Positive People and is the former president of District Network of Positive People.
He is presently a counsellor at Asare Samudaya Sanghatane, an organisation working for the welfare of sexuality minorities.
There are nearly 5,500 HIV-positive persons in Udupi district alone.
