Udupi, Apr 13: With barely one week to go for voting, infighting in the Udupi unit of Janata Dal (Secular) has deepened with four of leaders resigning from the primary membership of the party.

Responding to a query, Mr. Poojary, Mr. Salian and Mr. Fernandes, said they would remain neutral in the parliamentary elections, while Mr. Lobo said that he would campaign for the Congress candidate K Jayaprakash Hegde.
Meanwhile, Social Democratic Party of India workers have intensified campaign for former BJP stalwart Dhanjay Kumar. Hundreds of SDPI workers took part in a rally from Hejamady to Ucchila in the district recently to support Dahanjay Kumar. “Dhanjay Kumar is a secular leader and his victory will be the victory of the people of the constituency,” stated a local unit leader of SDPI.
JD(S) divided
Speaking to media persons Barkur Satish Poojary, who was the JD(S) candidate for Udupi Assembly constituency in 2013 Assembly elections, criticized the party 's decision to field former BJP leader and closest ally of former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa from the constituency.
He said that it was a grave mistake to field an “outsider” like Dhananjaya Kumar from Udupi-Chikmagalur constituency. The party had many dedicated workers, but unfortunately none of them were chosen to fight the Parliamentary elections from the constituency.
Mr Poojary also said that during the 2013 Assembly elections, he had borne the entire cost of campaigning. Party leaders such as the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and MLA Madhu Bangarappa, who had earlier promised that the party would bear the costs, had later stopped answering his calls, he lamented.
