Udupi, Mar 5: A case has been registered against a miscreant for hurting the sentiments of Indians by threatening to burn the Constitution of India during a panel discussion on a local television channel.

The accused has been identified as Elloor Subrahmanya Rao, a Sangh Parivar activist. He made the controversial statement during a panel discussion on a local television channel on Monday on the topic ‘Burning Bhagavad Gita'

The programme was organized in the wake of a few Hindu intellectuals expressed their ‘desire’ to burn 'Bhagavad Gita' in the public.

Amidst the discussion, Subrahmanya Rao is alleged to have made a statement to burn the Constitution. Shocked over the anti-national statement, Jayan Malpe, a local resident and activist, lodged a complaint at jurisdictional Malpe police station against Mr Rao.

The complainant stated that Mr Rao’s statements were an insult to the Constitution and rocked the very foundation of the country. He demanded that the accused should be booked under the Indian Sedition Act. The case has been registered under Section 124 (a) of the Indian Penal Code.

Mangaluru, Dec 20: City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has issued a high-alert warning to vehicle owners regarding a surge in cyber fraud targeting those looking to pay traffic violation fines. Fraudsters are reportedly exploiting recent government discount schemes on traffic penalties to deceive citizens.

The Scam: How Fraudsters Strike

Criminals are using SMS, WhatsApp, and social media to circulate suspicious links and APK files (Android application packages). They claim these apps allow users to pay e-challans at a discount.

•    Device Hacking: Downloading these unauthorized apps gives hackers full access to the victim's smartphone.

•    Financial Theft: Once the phone is compromised, fraudsters intercept OTPs and personal data to drain bank accounts.

•    Phishing Sites: Fake websites mimicking official portals are also being used to harvest banking credentials.

Already, two residents within Mangaluru city limits have reported significant financial losses after falling victim to these fraudulent apps.
