Udupi, Feb 8: Udupi police have arrested two interstate thieves and recovered several valuables from their possession.
The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar from Koppa in Chikmagalur district and Nagesh, aged 49, from Nittoor Kodankur in Shikaripura in Shivamogga district.
Investigating the theft, Udupi police team had found fingerprints at the scene of burglary, and traced it to theft accused Anil Kumar in a case pertaining to Padubidri police station limits.
Procuring his snapshot from Padubidri police for identification, the police team began a search for Anil Kumar in Udupi station limits. Based on accurate information, they managed to nab him outside a lodge in Udupi on February 5.
Based on information regarding the whereabouts of another accused, the police nabbed Nagesh thereafter.
The police team recovered valuables worth Rs 1.6 crore including 53 grams of gold ornaments, 250 grams silver ornaments, Rs 82,000 in cash and two mobile phones.
The two were produced before court and remanded to judicial custody.
