Bengaluru, Jan 19: The State recorded 88 per cent immunisation in the first round of the pulse polio programme of the year. There has been three per cent increase this time when compared to corresponding period of the previous year, said, Dr H?C Ramesh, Director, Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Udupi topped the chart with 95.4 per cent of children under five were administered with the drops. Hassan and Mandya claimed the next two positions with 94.03 and 93.33 per cent, respectively. Kalaburagi reported the lowest with 76.02 per cent as against 82.53 per cent in 2013. Yadgir and Bidar recorded close to 77 per cent each.
The programme was inaugurated at chief minister’s residence with Siddaramiah administering the oral vaccine to a child. Health Minister U?T?Khader also took part in the event.
86 pc in B’luru
Bengaluru registered 86 per cent of immunisation. As many as 5,57,916 children under five years were administered with polio drops.
A total of 2,132 booths were set up at various corners of the City to ensure maximum outreach.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare had set a target of 75,17,300 children between the age of zero to five across the State.
Over 31,800 booths were set up with 53,000 teams at work. Health staff working in various sectors, accredited social health activists, anganawadi workers, students from various colleges and volunteers were roped in for the programme.
Also, over 17,250 areas were identified as high risk areas as they had a majority of migratory or settled population with about two lakh children.
The officials of the Health department said that the second round of the campaign held on February 22.
