Announcing this, Health and Family Welfare Minister U T Khader said that the long-pending demand of the people of Ullal to upgrade the town municipality was given a nod in the cabinet meeting. The transformation will take place following orders issued by the state government. This decision will help the region of Ullal to achieve all-round development at a faster pace, he said.

Among demands from several town municipalities in the state for upgradation to city municipalities, a decision had been taken to upgrade eight town municipalities in the first phase. Once Chief Minister Siddaramaiah signs the papers, the government will issue orders for the upgradation of Ullal, he said.

Along with Ullal, Puttur town municipality will also be upgraded to city municipality once orders are issued by the government.

Mr Khader, who is also the MLA of Mangalore constituency which includes Ullal, said that with the upgradation, changes will be made in the administration of the two municipalities. The number of officials in the administrative system and grants from the government will increase substantially, which will help in the development of the municipalities, he said.
