Puttur, Dec 10: The unlettered orange-seller Harekala Hajabba, who has strived for the cause of educating young children despite being illiterate, has been chosen as the recipient of Bolanthakodi Kannada award, which was instituted in the memory of Kannada literature enthusiast Bolanthakodi Ishwar Bhat.
The award will be conferred to Harekala Hajabba at an award programme scheduled to be held on Saturday at Puttur Town Bank hall, said Bolanthakodi Fan Club in a press release.
The release stated that former MLA Urimajalu Rama Bhat would inaugurate the programme while Puttur senior advocate N Subramaniam would preside over it. On the occasion, A Sundar Shetty will recollect memories of the time spent with Bolanthakodi Ishwar Bhat.
In the programme, principal of Savanoor Vidyarashmi Vidyalaya Seetharama Kevala will unveil books'Chintana Mukura' written by Prof V B Arthikaje and'Nelada Naadi' by Na Karanth Peraje. Head of Department of Journalism at Vivekananda College, Puttur Rakesh Kumar Kemmaje will introduce the literary works of the authors, said the organisers.
A'book fest' and exhibition will be held at Puttur Town Bank hall for a week from Saturday onwards from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
