Mangaluru, Jun 30: Even as the row over the ban on headscarf inside the classroom in Mangaluru’s prestigious St Agnes College refused to die down, U T Khader, minister for urban development and housing, has directed the Dakshina Kannada district administration to resolve the issue through amicably.

When media persons sought Mr Khader’s response over the much hyped issue, he said that he has already directed Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil to intervene and resolve the problem by holding talks.

“This is a sensitive issue. But, anything can be resolved through talks. My direct interference will further politicize the issue. Hence, district administration has been assigned the responsibility to bring the case to a logical conclusion," he said.

“The district administration, representatives from the institution, department of public instruction and parents to come under one roof and resolve the issue amicably,” he said, adding that the involvement of other parties in the case will further worsen the issue.

On reports that a student of the institution was threatened for not supporting the pro-hijab protest organized by Campus Front of India, the minister said that police will not hesitate to take necessary action if anyone threatens a student for any reason. He urged the students and parents not to hesitate to bring such issues, if any, to the notice of the police.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
