After inaugurating the forum, Mr Khader spoke about the various developmental activities he has undertaken in the health sector. Also, he had an open house discussion with the audience on various important issues concerning them and the people back home.

The minister advised the audience not to panic by the recent electoral setbacks to Congress party saying that emotions don’t last for long, reversal of the trend will be seen sooner than expected since they keep on continuing their developmental work.

On this occasion, the KPF and BWF expressed their gratitude to the Supreme Court of India for taking the first step in acceding to NRIs long standing demand for their right to exercise franchise from wherever they reside. It could be recalled here that the apex court had recently asked the Government of India to enable NRIs to cast their votes through e-ballot within eight weeks.

Mr Uchil stated in a release that having understood the impact of NRI votes on the outcome of the election results, especially in the coastal belt of Karnataka, the friends of Congress from Karnataka residing in UAE have taken the proactive step of forming a new forum in order to educate the people of the new developments, get them registered as per the requirements of Election Commission of India and see that every NRI casts his/her vote in the very first opportunity available.

Mangaluru, Dec 7: A 34-year-old fruit and vegetable trader in Mangaluru has reportedly lost ₹33.1 lakh after falling victim to an online investment scam run through a fake mobile app.

Police said the scam began in September, when the victim received a link on Facebook. Clicking it connected him to a WhatsApp number, where an unidentified person introduced a high-return investment scheme and instructed him to download an app.

To build trust, the fraudster asked him to invest ₹30,000 on September 24. The trader soon received ₹34,000 as “profit,” convincing him the scheme was genuine. Over the next two months, he transferred money in multiple instalments via Google Pay and IMPS to different scanner codes and bank accounts shared by the scammers. Between September 24 and December 3, he ended up sending a total of ₹33.1 lakh.

When he later requested a refund of his investment and promised returns, the scammers demanded additional payments, claiming he needed to pay a “service tax” first. Even after he paid a small amount, no money was returned, and the scammers continued pressuring him for more.

A case has been registered at the CEN Crime Police Station.
