Kasargod, Dec 16: In a baffling incident that occurred on the outskirts of Kasargod, an enraged buffalo terrified people passing through the area and caused damage to four vehicles on Monday.

For close to two hours on Monday evening, the buffalo which seemed to have become outraged all of a sudden, unleashed its pent-up anger on innocent passers-by near the old bus stand in the city. In the ensuing melee, the buffalo damaged a Maruti car and a motorbike.

After a long operation, the local fire service department and police personnel were successful in containing the enraged animal.

Having run helter-skelter on the main road on the outskirts of the city, the buffalo caused havoc in middle of the incoming traffic and also caused people to panic and run for their lives. Despite an initial attempt to capture the animal by the police who arrived at the scene, it was unsuccessful.

Following this, the buffalo, still enraged, chased a vehicle upto four kilometres away, ending up near the main ice factory in the city. Barging inside the factory, it was immediately locked inside after which, police and fire service personnel made a successful attempt in confining the buffalo after it calmed a little.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
