Mangaluru, Sep 12: A Veda teacher who tortured a 10-year-old boy with fractured arm at a temple for sitting on a chair meant for chieftains and inquired him whether he was a Brahmin or Kshatriya was arrested by police on Saturday.

On Wednesday, a complaint was filed before Vittla police in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday after information spread on social media of Shyam Sundra Shastry (50) hitting the 10-year-old boy.
The boy was among several children coming to Shastry to learn Vedas at Panchalingeshwara Temple. The alleged assault occurred in April.
The police said they traced Shyam Sundara Shastry in Ujire, he appeared before the police around noon. Following questioning, the police arrested him.
He has been charged under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (insult intended to provoke breach of peace).
As all the sections are bailable provisions, the police released him on bail.
