Mangalore, Jun 20: A group of vigilante attackers owing allegiance to Bajrang Dal was in for a rude awakening when the cattle traffickers showed it the permission letter issued by the authorities of Vishwa Hindu Parishad!

Armed with communal hatred, the inebriated group had never thought that the bearded duo transporting nearly three dozens of cattle in two lorries to Kerala for unknown purpose could obtain permission letter from the Hindutva outfit.

Mistaking the traffickers to be Muslims, the miscreants waylaid two lorries on the outskirts of the city. But to their horror they witnessed two Sikhs –Sukha Singh and Kabal Singh- emerging from the lorry.

It is learnt that the duo was trafficking cattle from Ludhiana in North Indian state of Punjab to Kerala. When the cattle laden vehicles passed through Pumpwell Circle in the city a few Bajrang Dal activists began to follow them and also informed their associates. Finally they managed to waylay one lorry near Nethravati Bridge and the other near Kotekar.

Meanwhile, the police intervened to prevent any untoward incident and took the duo to jurisdictional Ullal Police Station for questioning. Later they were sent on their way.

Sources said that the duo instead of showing any official documents, produced a permission letter issued by a Vishwa Hindu Parishad to transport the cattle to Kerala.

However, it is suspected that the cattle were being transported to a slaughter house in Kerala.

The incident which took place on Friday night has fueled various rumours in the communally sensitively areas like Ullal and surrounding villages.

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Air India Express has announced that it will resume direct flight services between Mangaluru and Muscat from March 2026, restoring an important international air link for passengers from the coastal region.

Airport authorities said the service will operate twice a week—on Sundays and Tuesdays—from March 1. The initial flights are scheduled on March 3, 8 and 10, followed by March 15 and 17, with the same operating pattern to continue thereafter. The flight duration is approximately three hours and 25 minutes.

The Mangaluru–Muscat route was earlier operated under the 2025 summer schedule, with services beginning on July 14. At that time, Air India Express had operated four flights a week before suspending the service.

Officials said the summer schedule will come into effect from March 29, after which changes in flight timings and departure schedules from Mangaluru are expected. Passengers have been advised to check the latest schedules while planning their travel.

The resumption of direct flights to Muscat is expected to significantly benefit expatriates, business travellers and others, further strengthening Mangaluru’s air connectivity with the Gulf region.
