
Mangalore, May 18: After massive scam running up to crores with regard to the Wakf Board property came to light, the Board President Riyaz Ahmed Khan has said that he is determined to protect the property of the Board.
Mr Khan was on a tour to Dakshina Kannada district, on Friday and after visiting Zeenath Baksh Masjid, he said that discussions have been held with Central minister Rehman Khan with regard to putting the Wakf Board property to best use. Discussions have also been held with Islamic Development Bank.
“Encroachment of Wakf property can earn the encroachers a period of three years of imprisonment. Hence everyone should strive to protect the wakf property,” he said adding that there exists a misconception among organizations that if they register with the Board then a part of their funds will go to the Board. This is far from truth. In fact there are several benefits that organizations can avail on registering with the Board.
Taking interest on the wooden carvings in the Masjid, Mr Khan said that there was a need to conserve the rare art in the Masjid and in this regard special grant will be released.
Masjid Zeenath Baksh President Y Abdulla Kunhi, Treasurer S M Rahseed, Trsutee Haneef, Khateeb Sadakatullah Faizi, State Wakf Board Member N K Mohommad Shafi among others were present.
