Mangalore/Udupi, Mar 30: Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations are gearing up to implement webcasting in hundreds of polling booths under their jurisdiction during April 17 Lok Sabha polls. According to officials, 247 booths in Dakshina Kannada and 197 booths in Udupi will adopt webcasting method.

In Mangalore, a meeting in this regard was held at the deputy commissioner's office here on Thursday. Representatives from 16 engineering colleges including the NITK, Surathkal and BSNL officials took part in the meet.
"During the Assembly elections, live streaming through webcasting was conducted at 272 booths. We have plans to introduce webcasting in 247 vulnerable booths across the eight assembly segments in the constituency. A total of 220 schools in the district have BSNL broadband connections. The district administration will request the Chief General Manger, BSNL, Bangalore to see if the modems can be provided on rent for the rest of the booths," Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim said.
Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr Muddumohan said that webcasting will be taken up with the engineering college students of MIT, Moodalkatte and Nitte engineering colleges. The students from engineering colleges will get an opportunity to operate webcam enabled laptops in selected polling booths and capture live polling video which will be uploaded in the district administration 's official website.
Accordingly, 182 students from MIT, 126 from Moodalkatte engineering college and 100 from Nitte engineering college will take part.
