Mangaluru, Aug 11: District Surgeon and Medical Superintendent of Wenlock Hospital Dr H R Rajeshwari Devi said that a separate 12-bedded haemodialysis centre would be formally inaugurated at the hospital by Speaker of Karnataka Legislative Assembly Kagodu Thimmappa on Wednesday.
Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, she said that the inauguration of the haemodialysis centre was a step towards transforming Wenlock Hospital into a full-fledged and efficient tertiary hospital in the district.
Those patients suffering from viral hemorrhagic fever, rat fever or dengue fever are more prone to acute renal failure – the new haemodialysis centre will cater to their needs, she said, adding that the centre had been constructed at a total cost of Rs 15 lakh donated by Karnataka Bank.
She informed that over 600 cycles of dialysis had already been discharged to renal patients at the new haemodialysis centre over the past three months.
Inauguration ceremony on Wednesday
The inauguration ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, in the presence of district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, health minister U T Khader, sports and youth services minister Abhayachandra Jain, deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim and other local elected representatives. The ceremony will be presided over by Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, she said.
She informed that there would also be an interaction programme with peritoneal dialysis patients undergoing dialysis at the Wenlock Hospital. Along with this, a workshop on ‘The role of Elected Representatives towards a Healthy Society’ will be held following the inauguration ceremony, she said.
